 WHAT OUR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS SAYS

Shimpei HAGA
Born – Japan
Year 12 Student
(2009 International Student Leader)
"Hello there. My name is Shimpei Haga. I am from Japan. I am an International Student Leader and also an International Student Adviser. I would like to tell you about my life in New Zealand. I came to New Zealand because I wanted 'Experience' and I found that it is the greatest thing that I can have in New Zealand. I have been in New Zealand for one and a half years now and I have experienced a lot of things that I could not experience in Japan; Playing rugby, sky diving, and making friends with people who come from different countries.

I play rugby as a member of the school rugby team. It is an awesome time for me because it gives me more time to make lots of friends! I am 1000% sure that an international Students should join some sort of activity!!! Remember you can do whatever you want to do in New Zealand!!

Steven Mai

Born – China
Year 13 Student
(2009 International Student Leader)

"I’m Steven and I come from China. This is my second year of study at Rosehill College. I’m also a member of the School Badminton team. It’s quite exciting to be in the school team as you are not only improving your skills, but it’s also the way to communicate with other players.

When I first came to New Zealand, I felt the education system was quite different to that in china. I couldn’t get used to studying here and thought that was boring because I didn’t have any friends.

After I joined the badminton team, I started talking to local students and making friends. The important thing is that my English has improved a lot and I strongly suggest that you participate in at least one of the activity at Rosehill College. Don’t be shy! You’ll find that it is not hard to study in New Zealand".

Amaia Gil

Born – Spain
Short Term Student
(2007)

"I have enjoyed being in Rosehill College for one term. School in New Zealand is very different to Spain. In Spain we stay in the classroom with the same students and it’s a great experience having different students in all my classes and I have had the chance to make many friends. I like this country because it is very international and you can learn a lot about different countries".

Maria Afara

"I am an AFS Exchange student. I am here for one year. It has been an amazing year. I have met a lot of people I never thought I would meet. School hours are shorter in New Zealand. I have enjoyed being in the Premier basketball team. Great selection of subject options at the school".

Raimundo Vergara

"I have come to this country to study and it is a good opportunity. Experiences have made me have a different outlook on life. I have learnt about different cultures Rosehill College has helped me in all my subjects. The school is very supportive in their sports compared with Chile. People are very friendly".

Nivisha Patel

Year 12 Student in 2007
 (2008 International Student Leader)

"Hi .I am 16 years old and I come from Zambia (Africa) Coming to New Zealand, as an International student has been an awesome experience for me. I have been here for 1-½ years. I have been given many opportunities to prove myself and I have been faced with many challenges.  The support that the people here in New Zealand have given me is just great and has helped me through my study here. Coming to a school with many different kinds of people is a experience in itself. If you ever have the opportunity to come to New Zealand do not let it go".

Eddie Hung

Year 9 Student (2007)

Rakel Krisjansdottir
Born – Iceland
Year 13 Student (2007)

"Hi .My name is Rakel, I am from Iceland and I am an AFS exchange student. I am here two terms this year and two terms next year. I arrived in the second week of term 3 and the first week I was lost! I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. So many buildings! But it all started to make sense in the following weeks.

I joined the Basketball team and that was awesome. I went away on Tournament week to Rotorua. We went well and had a lot of fun. I had to leave early as I had an AFS Gateway camp on that weekend.

I highly recommend to any international student to join any school teams and be active, because that helps you make friends and it keeps you busy. Rosehill has been great. I have met heaps of new people and had a good time. It is really very different from my school back in Iceland. Everyday there is something happening. I hope to see some new AFS/International students come to Rosehill College next year".
