Level 2 NCEA Physics 2012

Course Structure
We welcome you to this course and wish you every success in your studies this year. This is a foundation course in Physics that will introduce a wide range of interesting ideas that will help you understand and explore the Physical World around you.

Course Outline
1.   Mechanics
2.   Electricity and Electromagnetism
3.   Light and Waves
4.  Atomic Physics

Practical work
This is an essential part of this course. This involves carrying out experiments and reporting your observation, findings in a scientific report. Practical workbooks will be collected after each practical write up. Completing practicals will prepare you for the summative assessments in the term 2 exam

Topic tests:
These are formative and compulsory. Marks will be recorded and notes will be sent to parents informing them about your progress. See Course assessment statement for test dates.

Discipline and learning:

  1. The Physics Department team has high expectations, standards and experience in teaching you this subject. We encourage students to strive towards reaching their full potential in both class work and assessments.
  2. Students are expected to put in their best efforts in class and to appropriately prepare themselves for their course assessments.
  3. Please respect your teacher and be a keen and contributing member in your group.
  4. Positive student behaviour that allows the teacher to teach and fellow pupils to learn is required at all times.
  5.  Students need to bring all equipment to class, settle quickly into work and remain on task. All students have the right to be taught without disruption. Selfish behaviour that hinders teaching and learning will not be tolerated.
  6. Students who do not follow specific instructions from their teacher during practicals will be endangering the safety of others and this will not be tolerated by the Physics Department. Your parents will be informed accordingly and you will not be allowed to carry out practicals.

Final Message:
If you are experiencing problems or difficulties in Physics, please do not hesitate to contact your teacher or any member of the Physics team:
Mrs J Hooks (HOD of Physics)
Mr I. Neziri, Mr. G. Botha and Ms J. Holt

We wish you well in your Physics studies for 2012
