Year 11 Course Outline

Welcome to Year 11 Drama.  This is a NCEA level 1 course which offers 20 credits and 24 credits for selected students


 
TERM 1

Weeks 1-4: Mime. You will learn the history and skills of mime work. We will practise mime exercises and you will devise a mime sequence to perform for the class.

 

Focus on body, space, and movement

Weeks 5-10: Script workshop. Students learn the skills of developing a script from paper to performance. We will learn about text and subtext, ways of playing a piece of script, and character development from script.

Focus on voice as well as body, space and movement

Assessment: Achievement Standard 1.1 Use drama techniques

TERM 2

Weeks 1-10: Theatre studies- Melodrama : Students will learn about melodrama, it’s traditions and conventions. In-groups, students will script a melodramatic scene to perform.

Assessment: Achievement standards 1.3 Demonstrate knowledge of a theatre form,

                                                               1.4 Perform an acting role

The term will culminate in evening performances of melodrama

TERM 3

Weeks 1-10: Class play: -devising and script writing. The class will devise a play based on an issue chosen by the group. You will discuss the main ideas, write the script, and decide upon roles. Blocking the action will follow, and lines will be learnt during the break.
You will design your own costume to suit the characters you are playing.

Assessment: Achievement standard 1.2 Use elements and conventions to devise drama

Assessment: Achievement standard 1.5 Perform a technical role 

TERM 4

Weeks 1-6: Class Play: Rehearsal of script, costume making, hang lights, sound rehearsal, run through for fine details, sound & lighting rehearsal and dress rehearsal. You will perform for friends and family.

Assessment: Achievement standard 1.5 Perform a technical role

Assessment:Achievement standard 1.2 Use Elements and Conventions to Devise a Drama   

Journal : Set reflection tasks will be given for each unit, and a written reflection is expected at the end of each unit

Assessment: Achievement standard 1.6 Understand and reflect on drama processes and performance. (External exam)
The 1.6 exam is offered to accelerate students only.
