YEAR 10 DRAMA: Course Outline

Drama is available to Year Ten students as a full year course. The course continues students' study of the basic principles of Drama, Theatre Studies and Storytelling, which they will extend on in the senior years.

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to a challenging and exciting year at Rosehill College, and in drama. You are expected to work hard, to be committed to class work, and to have lots of fun!

TERM 1
Weeks 1-6:
  Theatresports / Improvisation.
You will familiarise gain confidence and team building skills. You will also learn the skills of improvisation and use them to play a series of theatresports games, building on skills learnt in year 9. You will prepare for your summative with a theatresports terms test.

Weeks 7-10:  Physical Theatre
You will get to know one another by working in groups and creating scenes based on fairytales using new physical theatre techniques.. This will be a lot of fun!

TERM 2
Weeks 1-6:
  Voice Workshop.
You will learn how the voice works and how to use it effectively. You will work in small groups using both choral and solo voices to present a poem effectively. 
You will then learn a monologue (solo script) and will present it to the class. Your teacher will give you formative feedback on your choral work to help you prepare for the summative assessment.
Formative Assessment: Group Chorus Performance - Poem
Summative Assessment: Individual Monologue Performance.

Weeks 7-10:
Shakespeare studies.
You will learn about Elizabethan theatre and Elizabethan language and the writer himself.
Formative Assessment: Elizabethan Period and Shakespeare Test

TERM 3
Weeks 1- 2: Shakespearean Scene study.
You will rehearse and present with full action and dialogue a scene from one of Shakespeares great plays.
Summative Assessment: Performance of a Shakespearean Scene
KC: Participating and ContributingWeeks 3-10: Devising Workshop -  Myths and Legends
You will explore the world of Myths and Legends and use the information/stories gathered to create an oridinal drama with a group.  You will work in groups and as a whole class to create characters and situations and take part in a process drama. You will learn to assess the work of yourself and others.
Summative Assessment: Group work and Performance.

TERM 4
Weeks 1-10: History of Theatre .
In this unit of work you will learn about the "Commedia dell'Arte," where it came from and how it was performed.  You will make a Commedia mask.  You will then develop a script and perform it for the class in mask.
Formative Assessment: Performance of a Commedia del'Arte character
Smmative Assessments: Commedia del'Arte Examination (during Junior Examinations), Creation of a wearable mask for performance which is true to a Commedia del'Arte character.

ON-GOING
Reflection: After each unit of work you will complete a written reflection task to help you to identify the skills that you have learnt and how you are progressing in drama
Summative Assessment: Written reflection tasks, Journal entries
