YEAR 9 DRAMA: Course Outline

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME…
to a challenging and exciting year at Rosehill College, and in Drama.  You are expected to work hard, be committed to class work, and have lots of fun!  Below is an outline of what we will be doing in class, along with what you will be assessed on so that you can focus your learning for success.


TERM ONE

Icebreakers & Theatresports:            5 Weeks 

You will familiarise yourself with other class members, partake in trust exercises, relaxation games, team building activities and generally get used to the way a Drama class is run. You will learn basic performance skills by playing a series of theatresports games designed to help you create characters, think quickly, initiate and advance ideas and accept other peoples’ ideas.

Formative Assessment: Two Theatresports Games

Formative Assessment: Journal Writing

Summative Assessment: One Theatresports games

KC: Relating to Others, Thinking 

Voice & Character:                            3 Weeks

You will learn how to speak clearly and to project your voice on stage. You will find out how the voice works, and how to control it.  You will work with a partner to create a short scripted performance showing a clear character and elements of drama.

Introduction to Storytelling:             2 Weeks

You will activate your imagination by trying out storytelling conventions and partake in a series of whole class and group exercises that explore how stories are created and told.

TERM TWO:

Intergenerational Storytelling:          8 - 10 Weeks

You will write your own intergenerational story based on a homework assignment.  You will work in groups to choose one story as the basis for creating an original play. You will act in the chosen group story/play as part of a presentation to an invited audience.

Summative Assessment:   Developing Ideas – Story, Poster, Costume, Production Role

                                                Communicate Ideas – Character, Elements & Conventions

 KC: Relating to Others, Participating and Contributing, Managing Self

Journal:                                              Ongoing

You will learn to evaluate your own progress in class. Throughout the course you will complete written class-work drama activities, vocabulary pages and homework journal entries about your experiences in class.

KC: Thinking, Managing Self, Using Language Symbols and Text 

Examination:                                      1 Hour                      

At the end of the course you will complete a written examination as part of your Intergenerational Storytelling unit.  The examination will assess you knowledge of the ideas and concepts covered through out your Drama course including vocabulary such as drama techniques, elements and conventions.
